What about the other 6 pins (3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8) in the (DB9 on both sides) version of the cable? The manual says that:the pinout on the battery end is as follows: 1 - Shut Down RS-232 Input or Smart Mode RS-232 Data Rx In 2 - Line Fail RS-232 Output or Smart Mode RS-232 Data Tx Out 3 - Normally Open Line Fail Signal 4 - Common 5 - Normally Open Low Battery Signal 6 - Normally Closed Line Fail Signal 7 - UPS Turn-on/Turn-off Input 8 - Unregulated +24 Vdc Output 9 - Chassis Clearly the rest of the pins you did not specify, have to be connected to something on the computer end.

This is the standard serial cable, used on most units. DB9-RJ45 cable This cable is used on the more recent models, including Ellipse MAX, Protection Station.
